Objectives

Students should be able to

• develop curiosity and interest in science
• use apparatus and materials in performing experiments
• handle materials, manipulate apparatus and carry out experiments safely
• analyse and interpret data and draw relevant conclusions
• apply chemical and biological knowledge to explain observations and to solve problems
• select and organise scientific information from appropriate sources and to communicate this information in an appropriate and logical manner recognize the usefulness and limitations of science and the interactions between science, technology and society and to develop an attitude of responsible citizenship, including respect for the environment and commitment to the wise use of resources
• appreciate and understand the evolutionary nature of scientific knowledge
• develop attitude in finding the truth and eagerness in thinking the pros and cons of various issues
• understand and evaluate the social, economic, environmental and technological implications of the applications of chemistry and biology
• make decisions based on the examination of evidence and arguments
